Occupational therapy, otherwise shortened as OT, can simply be described as the use of evaluations, assessments as well as treatments to recover, maintain, improve or develop the daily living standards of people with various impairments. It also aims at improving the working skills of individuals living with certain disorders such as physical, cognitive, mental and other disorders. It therefore plays an integral role in shaping the lives of impaired individuals. OT is thereby very salient.

It aims to ensure that individual adapt to work conditions and modify the tasks in favor of client. Occupation therapy is a client focused practice aimed to improve and maintain the physical and mental ability of an individual to perform tasks and achieve goals in their day to day lives. It does not only focus on ones occupation but also aims to develop other skills and build liberty in daily engagements.

By dint of Occupational therapy, it is thus very easy to measure and access the progress of impaired children and individuals, and consequently helps them improve their various skills and daily activities such as independently feeding, dressing, bathing alongside other normal self-care activities. The program also incorporates many other less obvious advantages that ease the lives of impaired individuals, as will be addressed in this piece.

Firstly, the program helps to create interventions that help the child to appropriately respond to various messages, gestures and information that comes through the senses. Intervention includes developmental activities, sensory processing and integration, play activities, and etcetera. Additionally, OT helps in facilitating playing activities which instruct and aid the children interact and communicate with their colleagues and other members of the society.

Analysis incorporates all factors, including mental, physical, external environments so that the practitioner is aware of all limiting or catalyzing factors present that may directly or indirectly impact the end results of the therapy. Of importance are the expectations from the work place and families so that the therapy is modified in accordance with those demands and interests of the patient. The central focus is to achieve the practical desires in viable circumstances of the patient.

The evaluation process integrates psychosocial, environmental, mental, and other circumstances that may have an effect on the result of the recreation process. It is also vital that they examine the demands from work and their household so as to ensure that treatment is designed to meet realistic goals based on the best interests of the client. Therapy aims to meet the functional requirements and roles in all environments of the client.

Alongside that, occupational therapy strives to enhance the development of social skills as well as leisure or recreational activities in the schooling environment. OT further aims at assisting with issues like school mobility, accommodations, equipment, recommending adaptations, alongside a host of other requisite functions.

In conclusion, occupational therapy is vital for individuals with limitations such as the physically impaired so as to increase their involvement and participation in activities. It does not only focus on vocational interests of clients. It is a holistic process that evaluates all activities that are meaningful to the client and helping them overcome their limitations and increase their participation in those activities.
